Everyone likes nature, or at least, we would like to think that everyone does. Some people prefer to stay in the cities and not move unless they really, really have to. This is a problem for a lot of people because they’re really missing out, but it doesn’t have to be for you if you’re willing to venture outside your city and maybe even country.
Come to Nebraska, we have fun trails for you to explore, nature as you haven’t seen before, unless you’ve already visited Nebraska, in which case you know what others are missing out on.
Here are the best hiking trails in Nebraska, for everyone who likes to spend their time outdoors.
Pine Ridge – Chadron

If you have heard of Nebraska and are interested in visiting it, then you have surely heard of Pine Ridge, a famous forest and ridge that lies in Chadron.
The Trail System in Pine Ridge is huge and has over 80 miles or 128 kilometers of trails for you to explore. Unless you’re an ultramarathon runner or are otherwise really durable and like to walk, then this is a solid trail to visit and spend four or five days exploring. You can also ride bicycles here, which is great news for the more adventurous. Horseback riding is an option if you want to explore like in the pioneer days.
Halsey National Forest
This is the largest forest in the world, planted by hand. It is located in the Sandhills region, which you are free to completely explore. Yes, the forest has lots of paths and nooks and crannies for you to see, and you are allowed to explore it in its entirety, without a guide. That is for the more adventurous. The less adventurous can always visit the Scoot Lookout Tower and get a good view of the forest and surrounding area.
Lake McConaughy
This lake is very pretty. It is known for having a large shoreline which stretches and is around 100 miles or 160 kilometers. That is more than enough for any visitor to find a quiet place where they can relax by the water. It is located in the Ogallala region and has various trails for you to explore, which lead from ridges to canyons, over rocky roads and near the water. You can also just sit and relax by the water, it’s really calming.

Fontenelle Forest
Located in Bellevue, the Fontenelle Forest has many hiking trails, some of which go up the bank of Missouri river, which is a pretty well-known river. The trails are wonderful, surrounded by forests and offer the adventurous ones all sorts of treasures to find, treasures of nature, that is. One of such treasures is the Hidden Lake, which people forget about, which is pretty funny given its name. It’s a beautiful small lake nested in the forest.
If you’re visiting Nebraska, then be sure to visit some of these trails and have a great time exploring the Nebraskan wilderness, hiking and taking in the sights.
